Angel Di Maria, the Argentinean football star believes that the 2022 FIFA World Cup will have a great impact on Qatar and the entire Arab world.
The Paris Saint-Germain and Argentine winger was talking at the sidelines of his club’s recent winter training camp in Doha. Di Maria said he had no doubts about the tournament’s significance to the Arab region. The winger stated that it will be a very important World Cup for the region.
The Argentine and PSG attacker said he was impressed with the country’s stadiums and he is hopeful that the tournament will be a big boost for the Arab world.
Speaking to reporters, the football great said: “I have been to Doha a few times; both on a personal level and with the team and I have been received very well.”
Angel Di Maria, who won 92 caps for his country, praised Qatar’s efforts in preparing to host a hitch free tournament.
The winger who was part of the Argentina squad which made it to the finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup said that he had played World Cups in very big countries where his team had to make long journeys, thus complicating their chances.
Argentina previously has had successes on Qatari soil after its youth team won the U20 FIFA World Cup in 1995. Di Maria is hopeful that win will serve as a good omen for his team.
After coming so close to winning the World Cup in Brazil, Di Maria is confident his country can lift the most prestigious award in world of football this summer for the first time since 1986.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup that will take place this summer in Russia has seen the qualification of four Arab countries, a first for the region.
