6 Ways the Masjid Can Help Make Eid Celebration Memorable

As we count down the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr preparation is one other task on our list. Eid al-Fitr is the first day of the month of Shawwal and the end of the month of Ramadan as such it is a festive season for Muslim to celebrate upon successfully concluding yet another 29 days of fasting.
Planning of Eid is not specifically an individual effort it partly involves the masjid too. This is because single brothers and sisters, converts, students or strangers to the community who have no family, where are they expected to go?
This article suggests ways in which our masjid can step in and make Eid memorable for everyone by organising even to foster unity among Muslims.

#1. Organise a dinner

This is, I think, one of the easiest and simplest a masjids can organise especially during Eid. Try to make it simple even if getting catered is out of budget try getting a few volunteers to prepare the food.

#2. Organise an Eid luncheon

It must not be an extravagant event try to make as simple as possible. Try to seek for donations and volunteers who will sponsor the event. The idea here is to try a maintain an Eid festive atmosphere around the masjid. This should be preferably after the Eid prayer.

#3. Organise something for the kids

The kids shouldn’t be left out, they should not be given the impression that the masjid is only for adults. Organise an event where kids will have the opportunity to participate in games and compete with one another. Plus, there should be a lot of candy giveaway for the kids.

#4. Organise a giveaway visit

The masjid should arrange for giveaways to places where this item will be needed. It should be planned beforehand as even zakat can be gathered from people and taken to shelters, distributed to needy and taken to food banks for storage.

#5. Organise sporting event for youths

The masjid can also group the youths in the community into houses; Uthman, Abubakr, Umar houses and have them compete in Eid championships. This can involve sports such as baseball, hockey, football, and basketball. The kids can cheerlead. This could go a long way at boost Eid spirit and youth confidence.

#6. Involve the youths

Whenever the masjid is organising an event, it shouldn’t be specifically be for the masjid administrators alone. The youths and new Muslims should be involved in the planning and executions of this projects and events.
Our masjid has a big role to play in our communities aside from being a place of worship. It can serve as a place for community meetings, safe house, halls for Islamic and community-related events and more.
