Celestial Extracts On Sea (part 2)

Just in case you feel like reading more on what the Holy Quran says about the sea, here are the excerpts…

#1. He Who created the earth and the skies and everything in between has told his believer all they need to know regarding the sea and it is all right there in the Holy Qur’an. The following Qu’ranic extracts also contain fiqh (laws) regarding the sea.

#2. It is Allah Who hath created the heavens and the earth and sendeth down rain from the skies, and with it bringeth out fruits wherewith to feed you; it is He Who hath made the ships subject to you, that they may sail through the sea by His command; and the rivers (also) hath He made subject to you. (Surah İbrahim, 32)

#3. Seest thou not that Allah has made subject to you (men) all that is on the earth, and the ships that sail through the sea by His Command? He withholds the sky (rain) from failing on the earth except by His leave: for Allah is Most Kind and Most Merciful to man. (Surah Al-Hajj, 65)

#4. Or (the Unbelievers’ state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light! (Surah An-Nur, 40)

#5. It is He Who has let free the two bodies of flowing water: One palatable and sweet, and the other salt and bitter; yet has He made a barrier between them, a partition that is forbidden to be passed. (Surah Al-Furqan, 53)

#6. Or, Who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water? (can there be another) god besides Allah. Nay, most of them know not. (Surah An-Naml, 61)

#7. Or, Who guides you through the depths of darkness on land and sea, and Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy? (Can there be another) god besides Allah.- High is Allah above what they associate with Him! (Surah An-Naml, 63)

#8. So We seized him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea: Now behold what was the end of those who did wrong! (Surah Al-Qasas, 40)

#9. Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of (the need) that the hands of men have earned, that ((Allah)) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that they may turn back (from Evil). (Surah Ar-Rum, 41)

#10. And if all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), with seven oceans behind it to add to its (supply), yet would not the words of Allah be exhausted (in the writing): for Allah is Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom. (Surah Luqman, 27)

#11. Seest thou not that the ships sail through the ocean by the Grace of Allah.- that He may show you of His Signs? Verily in this are Signs for all who constantly persevere and give thanks. (Surah Luqman, 31)

#12. Nor are the two bodies of flowing water alike,- the one palatable, sweet, and pleasant to drink, and the other, salt and bitter. Yet from each (kind of water) do ye eat flesh fresh and tender, and ye extract ornaments to wear; and thou seest the ships therein that plough the waves, that ye may seek (thus) of the Bounty of Allah that ye may be grateful. (Surah Fatir, 12)

#13. And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. (Surah Ash-Shura, 32)

#14. “And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned.” (Surah Ad-Dukhan, 24)

#15. It is Allah Who has subjected the sea to you, that ships may sail through it by His command, that ye may seek of his Bounty, and that ye may be grateful. (Surah Al-Jathiyya, 12)

#16. So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. (Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 40)

#17. He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together: (Surah Ar-Rahman, 19)

#18. Between them is a Barrier which they do not transgress: (Surah Ar-Rahman, 20)

#19. And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains: (Surah Ar-Rahman, 24)

#20. When the Oceans are suffered to burst forth; (Surah Al-Infitar, 3)
