Dubai commences installation of solar rooftop undertaking

The installation of solar rooftop which is to commence this month and managed by DP world is expected to complete the first stage of the project in 2017. The installation project was initiated by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority as part of the Shams Dubai Project.
Over 88,000 rooftop solar panels are expected to be installed in Jebel Ali Free Zone and Mina Rashid and the energy obtained from theses panels is said to provide 40% of overall energy consumption of Jafza.
The installation of rooftop solar panels will also help in the reduction of carbon emission and also ensuring good health for Dubai residents as over 22,000 tonnes of carbon will be saved which is equivalent to carbon released from 4,500 cars.
According to a statement 3,000 homes will be able to get sufficient clean power after the first stage of installation.
For the second and third stage, Jafza and Mina Rashid will be the main focus of the installation project with an estimated 22MW at its highest.
In a Dubai for Dubai to achieve a reduction in energy demand of 30% by 2030, all efforts are being made to ensure that the installation of the rooftop solar becomes a success. Furthermore the project also is geared towards supporting the UAE vision 2021 in developing and maintaining a green economy.
The Shams projects gives residents the opportunity to install PV solar panels on their rooftops to obtain energy from the solar. Networks will also be connected to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
The energy produced will be used on the location the installation is and the excess energy will be transmitted to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
Customers will be charged based on the equivalence of the amount of energy units produced.
According to the managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, all government and private sectors will be brought onboard to enhance on the success of the project.
He went on to say “this will strengthen our determination towards attaining the Smart Dubai initiative to change Dubai into the happiest and smartest city in the world.”
