Dubai invests in Future Accelerators programme

A Dhs1bn ($270m) Future Accelerators programme has been officially initiated by Dubai in a bid to make the country an innovation hub.
Government sectors partner with innovative companies to find a way forward from barriers of the 21st century. Those involve in this programme are expected to develop templates or business plans that will be applicable in Dubai.
Out of 2,274 applicants, 30 compnies have been selected to partner with the government sector to take part in this programme and keys sectors like education, health, infrastructure, transportation, security, energy and finance will be the main target.
The headquarters which will cover a 22,000 square-foot building features offices, conference rooms communal workspace, specialized labs and halls for events and workshops. Also included is the first branch outside the US of the 1776 Startup Incubator, which will provide training and investment opportunities to investors.
Investors and government sectors will have access to invest in applicable projects after the templates or business plans have been approved of.
The President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum commented that “the UAE Strategy for the Future was launched a few days back and we are presently enforcing it with an innovative network that links the government sector with global innovative companies and transforms governemtn expenditure into an ongoing investment. Our main aim is to reestablish the role of the government in which government entities play a vibrant role in the future and enhancing global innovation.”
During the initial stage of the programme eight government sectors have been the main stakeholders, but other sectors have been called upon to be part of the UAE Strategy for the Future.
Furthermore, government sectors have been giving streamlines about the ongoing project. These bodies include, the Dubai Police Force, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Holding, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Emirates NBD.
Each sector emphasizes the role it is playing in enhancing the project and developing the systems of each sector.
