It has just been announced that his Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai) has launched a humanitarian foundation (The Emirates Food Bank) which is set in place to teach values of generosity as well as food offering. This is set in place to make Dubai as one of the region’s first city in attaining zero food waste to landfill.
This initiative comes at a time which coincides with “The Year of Giving” (which was declared last month by His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan- President. It also comes on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
An invitation has been set out to all public and private organisations as well as the community in the UAE to mark this day on their calendars as a celebration of his accession day to charity.
The food bank is expected to include; hospitality foundations, farms, giant supermarkets, food factories and philanthropists. The bank is also expected to deal with surplus fresh and canned food in a professional manner under the supervision of relevant bodies.
The beneficiaries of this food bank would be habitants in the UAE and abroad with local and international humanitarian and charitable organisations.
“The Year of Giving is a golden opportunity to unleash the humanitarian potential and charitable innovations of the UAE people and all local institutions. We are very pleased to begin the Year of Giving with an initiative related to the most important human need, food, to deepen the merit of generosity in Emirati people,” Shaikh Mohammad said.
