Longest zipline in the world opens in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Ras Al Khaimah, a city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has achieved a Guinness World Record with its most recent adventure tourism product, Jebel Jais Flight: the World’s longest zipline.

Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, ruler of Ras Al Khaimah was handed the official certification by the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, Hoda Khachab.

A statement said that Al Qasimi was the first to try the new zipline after the official certification by the Guinness World Records.

Jebel Jais Flight, the world’s longest zipline measures 2.83km and traversing the gulf of Jebel Jais, the United Arab Emirates’ largest mountain peak at over 1,680 meters above sea level.

The statement added that the Ras Al Khaimah zipline is operated by Toro-Verde Ras Al Khaimah.

CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, Haitham Mattar said that this is a great achievement for Ras Al Khaimah’s international tourism ambitions. He went on saying that they are now receiving their largest ever number of visitor arrivals and are confident that the world’s longest zipline will earn Ras Al Khaimah significant acknowledgement of the local, regional and global stage and boost the destination into the main leagues of global adventure tourism. He added that the zipline will become Ras Al Khaimah’s star tourism product and will make Jebel Jais as the adventure tourism hub of the Middle East. He said that they are expecting to see rise in the number of adventure tourists coming from across the globe to try this amazing experience.

For over a year now, delivery of the zipline which features a steel cable weighing above six tons and suspended 1,680 meters above sea level has been in the planning phase.

Jorge Jorge, CEO of Toro Verde RAK said they anticipate the attraction accommodating around 100,000 riders per year, a rider every five minutes on the two zip lines, equating to around 200 people per day. He added that they can operate during the summer months, given its location in Jebel Jais which is 10 degrees cooler than average UAE temperatures.

Launch of the zipline is part of the City’s campaign to transform the United Arab Emirates into the region’s adventure and activity tourism hub. With the UAE benefitting from varied landscape, which includes the Hajar Mountains and Jebel Jais.

The campaign is taking a leap forward with the opening of a following among walkers, hikers and cyclists and also the recent opening of Jebel Jais Via Ferrata (Iron Path).
