It has been said by a highly placed source on Sunday that a community organisation and businessman have been selected for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (the highest honor conferred on overseas Indians by the Government of India)-PBSA.
The Chairman of Regal Group Holdings in Dubai, the Indian Social and Cultural Centre-ISC in Abu Dhabi ad Vasu Shroff are likely to receive the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award from Praab Mukherjee (the President of India, at the annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Bengaluru) on Monday.
The ideology behind the award is to recognise overseas Indians and institutions that had made significant contributions to India as well as the Indian community abroad.
The ISC (the largest Indian community organisation in Abu Dhabi) was established in 1967 and this year, it will be celebrating its golden jubilee.
“This achievement is significant as ISC is all set to celebrate 2017 as golden jubilee year” said Yousuf Ali M.A. (chairman of the ISC and managing director of Emke Group).
Thomas Varghese,honorary president of the ISC said: “We dedicate this award to our members who have been relentlessly serving the Indian community in Abu Dhabi during the past 50 years”.
The second awardee, Vasu Shroff, started with helping hand-cum-sales ma at small stores of Regal Traders close to Dubai Creek. He has also developed a textile store into a textile chain.
Over the years, the company grew into Regal Group Holdings; a conglomerate of Regal Traders, Regal Technologies, Regal International, Regal Group Investments and AYT International, and had celebrated its 60th year of existing in 2012-2013.
