We live in a world that lacks awareness, neutrality, initiative, understanding and cooperation. This is what the Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, said when he met with United States counter extremism officials in Washington recently.
Al-Issa said the answer to the chaos that currently besets the world lies in the true values of Islam, and its tolerance and peace.
Douglas Padgett, senior policy adviser on extremism at the US State Department, and other advisers attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed many issues related to combating extremism, violence and hatred committed in the name of religion, as well as the tendency to fear Islam and Muslims, called Islamophobia.
Al-Issa explained that the Muslim World League is eager to shed light on the true values of Islam, which have nothing to do with terrorism or extremism.
“The Muslim World League is also on a mission to raise awareness and understanding about diversity and differences, promote and provide love, peace and happiness for every single being, and explain the truth of suspicions surrounding some concepts, whether these were caused by people inside or outside the Islamic world,” Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa said.
Al-Issa is of the view that religious, intellectual, and cultural diversity and differences are universal facts that must be accepted by every single person. He said a high and good level of awareness, tolerance, cooperation, understanding, peace between people and respect for everyone’s rights and freedoms is fundamental in fostering confidence between civilisations and peoples from diverse backgrounds.
The Muslim world league chief also pointed out that passion, love and interest should be directed towards religious, intellectual, and cultural convictions that form identities and civilizations, especially when guided by the wisdom and awareness of religious leaders in the Muslim world.
