The hijab is a veil for women to conceal their outer and inner beauty. It is a cover to protect them from lustful gazes of the opposite sex or jealous gazes of other females. Islam gives women the means to protect their modesty by enabling them to cover up while in public spaces so they will be shielded from the eyes of onlookers who are not directly related to them.
Allah Azawajala says in the Qur’an:
“Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them. And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers … and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments.’ (Qur’an 24:30–31)
The hijab hides sexuality in women’s bodies. The hijab worn for the pleasure of Allah azawajala shields women from the sexual and social attractions from strange men. For a woman who chooses to veil herself the style of dress is a reflection of the importance she attaches to modesty as per the teachings of Islam.
However a lot of hijab ‘styles’ common nowadays leave us wondering. We are surrounded with a sea of tight fitting and stylish hijab . Some women wear the hijab only to show off their beauty. They wear the hijab in such a very tight manner that their entire body shapes are visible just so they will be attractive.
wearing the hijab is a commandment from Allaah as we have seen in the above verse. Making the hijab so tight fitting and glitzy is following the orders of shaitan. There is no reward in turning the hijab into a fashion statement. The hijab has never been and it will never be a way to express one’s taste in fashion. The hijab is a way for women to submit to the commandments of Allaah. So let women take the dress code as such, and fear Allaah.
