7 Islamic tips on how to overcome wedding stress

Although weddings are supposed to blissful events, they can become a huge source of stress and anxiety. Trying to get everything together; the wedding date, dress code, venue, food, literally everything to ensure the wedding is perfect can be a very enormous task. Here are some tips to help you overcome your problems and to ensure you have a stress-free wedding!

  1. Stick to the Sunnah

The simplest rule for a stress-free wedding is to stick to the teachings of the Prophet (SAW). Most of the things we include in our weddings today are not in fact in line with what Islam teaches. Today, weddings are turned into places of sin- music and extravagant expenditure. Yes, it is okay to celebrate such a blessed day, but most of what we do are not necessary and hence, the stress.


  1. Seek refuge with Allah

We must always seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan at all times. We should particularly seek refuge against the cursed one during times like weddings. That is because Shaytan would stop at nothing to make sure that whatever good a person tries to indulge in is ruined.


  1. Make dua: Dua is a powerful tool that can help soothe our hearts. Here are some duas one can make when in distress:
  • Laa illaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu minadh-dhalimin

There is no god but You, You are far exalted and above all weaknesses, and I was indeed the wrongdoer.


  • “O Allah, there is no ease except what you make easy, and You alone can turn a difficulty into ease.” Ibn As-sinni


  • Allah, Allah, Rabbi la ushriku bihi shai’an (Allah, Allah, my Lord, I associate none with Him) [Abu Dawud]


  1. Delegate tasks

You can’t do it all, so divide the tasks. That is why family and friends are so important. Give everyone a responsibility that you see fitting. That way, things could get done faster and more efficiently, with little stress involved.


  1. Take a break

Sometimes, when things get really hectic, what you need is some air. Get away from the scene for a little while to blow off some steam. Go to the beach or go for a walk. Better yet, go out with your family and friends somewhere fun. Relaxing helps you see things clearer and calms everyone’s nerves.


  1. Stay positive

The mind is a powerful thing, and it controls our body and behaviour. As such, you must learn to control it. Stay positive. Look around you and appreciate how far you’ve come. Remember that you are about to fulfil a very important part of your religion, and that is a great thing. Say Alhamdulillah.

With all the preparation and expectations, it is so easy to forget the most important person- You. It’s your wedding, and all the things everyone is getting stressed out about are for you. So, you need to stay in shape. Make sure you eat a healthy diet and do regular exercise. Find ways of destressing.
