Does Islam believe in Aliens? Concept of Aliens in Light of Islam

We can define an alien as, “a hypothetical or fictional being from another world”, means extra-terrestrial life or the material lifeforms like us, existing outside the earth.

What do you think about the existence of such unfamiliar beings in the universe? Let’s try to make this concept clear by consulting Quran.

The main objective of this article is to provide the evidences from the Quran, for the existence of aliens in the universe.

Here are some Quranic verses which are being extracted from the Holy Quran to make the concept “Does Aliens exist?” clear.

In 42 Surah of Quran, Ash-Shuraa , Verse 29, we are told,

“Among His (God’s) signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them: and He has power to gather them together when He wills.”

According to my understanding, in the above mentioned verse, almighty Allah has indicated that, in addition to the human beings, animals and all terrestrial life, there exists an extra-terrestrial life as well. Let’s extract the piece of verse for better understanding, the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them here, creation of heaven and earth means the animate (non-living) portion of the earth and heaven while, the scattering of living creatures means on the earth we, human beings, animals, birds so on but in the heavens, living things being scattered, must be aliens. Life is not just concentrated on this earth but it is divided among other heavenly bodies (Planets); moreover, on Mars traces of life were also found in 2010.

There are more verses through which we evidence for their existence can be known.

In Surah An-Nur( 24:41), “Seest thou not that it is God Whose praise all beings in the heavens and on earth do celebrate, and the birds (of the air) with wings outspread?…” (9) word “sama” is translated as “heaven” and heaven is also Arabic for ‘sky” so it can be seen from this verse that living things scattered among heaven does not include birds, As here, birds are mentioned separately.

Moreover, in this verse there is also an indication of extraterrestrial life, 16:49 goes, “And to God doth obeisance all that is in the heavens and earth, whether moving (living) creatures or the angels…”. It can be ascertained from here that in heaven along with angels living things also exists who worship and praise almighty Allah.

The word “Dabbatun” is referred to the beasts here. This is the same word used in 2:164,”…in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth…are signs for a people that are wise,” and in 24:45,” And God has created every animal from water: of them are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. God creates what he wills…”

From the above references from the Holy Quran it is being cleared that there must be some lifeforms exist in the heaven excluding angels.

Since Allah is all-knowing, we can just understand according to our mental level.
