The Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing in the UAE, Ohoud bint Khalfan Al Roumi has hailed the country’s 20th position in the 2018 World Happiness Report.
Al Roumi recently said that the UAE achieving this position is great, and that the achievement was as a result of the country’s progressive idea to achieve happiness and wellbeing in the society.
In comments published by state news agency, WAM, Al Roumi said that the concerted efforts and achievements made by local and federal government entities in the country to incorporate culture of happiness and wellbeing in their environment and make it an important goal in their day-to-day work was a key catalyst for the UAE to get the 20th happiest country ranking out of the whole world.
Finland took the highest spot as the happiest country in the world, as measured by studies carried out by Gallup International from 2015 to 2017.
Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, and Australia make the rest of the top 10 countries in order of overall happiness.
Published by the Earth Institute at Columbia University and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the report also classified Emiratis as the 11th happiest nationality.
The report this year has seen the addition of new indicators to help measure the level of happiness among emigrant populations in host countries, due to the increases in the numbers of people living out of their countries of origin.
In the 2018report which grades happiness of the world’s overseas-born population during the 2005 to 2017 period, the United Arab Emirates ranked 19th among the happiest expatriate population, ahead of countries like France, Belgium, Singapore, Germany and the UK.
The report draws on the outcomes of the Gallup World Poll in a hundred and sixty countries, covering over 100 indicators centered on seven themes to evaluate and measure diverse aspects of respondents’ daily lives.
In the 19 indicators that is adopted by the World Poll, and conducted yearly to measure satisfaction and happiness levels of people, the United Arab Emirates accomplished progressive outcomes and ranked among the top 7 globally.
The UAE came in 2nd place in satisfaction ranking with the accessibility to quality healthcare.
About a hundred and fifty-six countries are ranked by their happiness levels in the World Happiness Report 2018, and a hundred and seventeen countries by the happiness of their immigrant populations.
